UPSL Welcomes GOSA Spurs as a Florida Central Division Expansion Team

Orlando (Fla.)-Based Pro Development Club Plays Tropics SC on Saturday

April 30, 2019 – Los Angeles – The United Premier Soccer League (UPSL) is excited to welcome GOSA Spurs as a new league member for the 2019 Spring Season.

Based in Orlando (Fla.), GOSA Spurs plays in the UPSL Pro Premier Southeast Conference Florida Central East Division, and currently hosts its UPSL home games at Lake Howell High School (4200 Dike Rd., Winter Haven, FL 32792) in compliance with UPSL Minimum Standards.

GOSA Spurs travels to play Florida Tropics SC on Saturday, May 4, 2019, at Lake Myrtle Stadium (2701 Lake Myrtle Park Rd., Auburndale, FL 33823). Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET. For tickets go to FLTropics.com/TropicsUPSL or call (863) 240-0101.

United Premier Soccer League Florida Manager Christian Vallejos said, "GOSA is one of the top clubs in Central Florida and it's an honor to have them playing in UPSL Florida. Director Mario Alvarado has led the club for 15 years and they're ready to take a step up in level with GOSA Spurs. It's a good move at a good time for their club. We wish GOSA Spurs continued success in 2019 and beyond."

GOSA Spurs is owned by Mario Alvarado is Director of GOSA Spurs. The owner of Greater Orlando Soccer Academy (GOSA), Alvarado consolidated the club and had the 'GOSA' name legally registered in 2014.

John Ruiz-Ashley serves as Team Manager of GOSA Spurs.

GOSA Spurs Team Manager John Ruiz-Ashley said, "We have everything in place to get bigger, and we're right now looking into building our own little stadium, so things are moving fast for GOSA. Mario Alvarado has grown the academy to more than 500 players, and a lot of those players currently on the team played in with GOSA as younger players. Now they have played in college and came back to play for the new GOSA Spurs UPSL team, so that has worked really well and now the academy players have players and a team to look forward to."

Greater Orlando Soccer Academy is a competitive boys soccer club with numerous Under-12 through Under-16 teams, and trains hundreds of Central Florida youth players every year.

GOSA Spurs (2-3-1) opened its inaugural UPSL Florida Central East Division campaign with a 2-1 loss to Sporting Orlando SC on Saturday, March 16, 2019, but has taken nine points from its last five games and currently sits tied for third in the division.

GOSA Spurs is an American Soccer club currently based in Orlando, Fla., and a new member of the United Premier Soccer League. GOSA Spurs plays in the UPSL's Southeast Conference.

Founded in 2019, GOSA Spurs can participate in the qualifying rounds for the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup through their affiliation and membership with the UPSL, the U.S. Soccer Federation (USSF) and the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA).

United Premier Soccer League

The UPSL was formed in 2011 and currently includes more than 300 teams in Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, Virginia and Wisconsin. UPSL is the fastest growing Pro Development League in the USA, with 400-plus teams targeted for 2019 Fall Season. Each UPSL team is individually owned and operated, and is responsible for maintaining either UPSL Pro Premier Division or Championship Division minimum standards.

UPSL teams are all eligible to participate in the U.S. Open Cup Qualifying Rounds through the leagues affiliation with the U.S. Soccer Federation (USSF) and the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA).
