UPSL Announces San Diego Expansion with Rebels Soccer Club

Founded in 1982, Chula Vista (Calif.)-Based Pro Development Club Joins UPSL

July 17, 2019 – Los Angeles – The United Premier Soccer League (UPSL) is pleased to announce Rebels Soccer Club as a new member kicking off with the 2019 Fall Season.

Based in Chula Vista (Calif.), Rebels Soccer Club will begin UPSL play in the Western Conference San Diego Section and is finalizing its home venue in compliance with UPSL's Minimum Standards.

United Premier Soccer League Commissioner Yan Skwara said, "We are excited to welcome Rebels Soccer Club to the UPSL San Diego Section. Rebels SC's top team continues to prove its quality on the pitch this season, and we think they'll make a great addition to the new Western Conference San Diego Section. Rebels SC is one of San Diego's premier soccer clubs, and now they're ready take the next step and join the UPSL starting with the upcoming Fall Season. We wish them the best of luck."

Rebels SC is competing in its first season in SoCal Premier (USASA), and currently is the U23 South Division's top-seeded team ahead of a four-team playoff scheduled for the weekend of July 27-28.

Steve Contreras is President, and Ryan Marquez is Director of Coaching for Rebels Soccer Club, which features more than 120 competitive youth teams for boys and girls under its growing structure.

Jesus 'Jesse' Acevedo is General Manager and Assistant Coach of the Rebels SC adult program. A native of Southern California at U.S. Marine Corps veteran, Acevedo holds a USSF National 'D' Coaching License and currently is the Junior Varsity Boys Soccer Coach at Chula Vista (Calif.)'s Hilltop High School.

Rebels Soccer Club General Manager Jesse Acevedo said, "As the club scanned for its next option, giving our players that next opportunity of their soccer careers is our primary focus. The UPSL, we feel, fits that ideal and is a great option for Rebels SC. We've all seen the growth the UPSL has had over the last three years, and we're excited to be part of the UPSL and it continues to shape the landscape of lower division soccer in the United States."

Matt Emmert serves as Head Coach for Rebels SC. A Pennsylvania native, Emmert played at both Ursinus College and Gettysburg College (NCAA) before moving on to a cross-country coaching career. He holds USSF 'A' Coaching License and a United Soccer Coaches 'Premier' Diploma.

Rebels SC Head Coach Matt Emmert said, "I've been following the UPSL since it started and I've seen a huge amount of growth and the ability to provide a fantastic opportunity. And that's what Rebels SC wants to do – to provide a fantastic opportunity for high-level players. Joining the UPSL a chance for us to take a step up in the quality of competition, take a step up in how professional we take ourselves, and we're looking for chances to continue improving our players and give them continued opportunities to play."

The club will announce its upcoming game schedule.

United Premier Soccer League

The UPSL was formed in 2011 and currently includes more than 300 teams in Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, Virginia and Wisconsin. UPSL is the fastest growing Pro Development League in the USA, with 400-plus teams targeted for 2019 Fall Season. Each UPSL team is individually owned and operated, and is responsible for maintaining either UPSL Pro Premier Division or Championship Division minimum standards.

UPSL teams are all eligible to participate in the U.S. Open Cup Qualifying Rounds through the leagues affiliation with the U.S. Soccer Federation (USSF) and the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA).
